About a hundred people gathered in the heart of Genk against fascism. The wake-up call came after the election victory of the extreme right in Italy. Genk is a mining area where many communities live together, including the Italian community. The organizers note that also Italians living in Belgium are increasingly adopting an (extreme) right-wing mindset. Some have lost faith in politics to such an extent that they think that the extreme right can offer a solution to the needs of the population. The action, supported by various organizations, also pointed to the rise of the far right in other countries and its dangers. Furthermore, expressions of support were also sent to Iranian women and the population who are fighting for their freedoms.
